Solid Travel Accessories

Traveling with just a carry on can seem daunting, especially when you have to fit all liquids in a small plastic bag.

My secret to managing this is to pack as many solids as possible to eliminate the need to put them in that dreaded ziploc.

Here are a few of my favorites!

Contouring can seem a little overwhelming at first and most of what you see online is EXTREME.
This doesn't have to be the case though, you can get the benefits of contouring and correcting in a very wearable way.

I like to split the whole thing into 4 parts; shadows, warmth, correcting and highlighting.

Shadows: I use a cool, grey toned color to give the effect of shadows in certain areas. I apply it in the most outward corners of my giant forehead, under my cheekbones, under my jaw, below my bottom lip and down my nose to slim it a little.

Warmth: This is essentially bronzing but in cream form. I use this closely in conjunction with the shadows to stop them looking like dirty lines. I like to apply it around my forehead, ON my cheekbones, around my chin and a little down the nose.

Correcting: This might be my favorite, i use it to cancel out blue tones and veins around my eyes and around my nose where it can appear darker.

Highlighting: To brighten my face i use a lighter or yellow toned product (sometimes i make a mixy) and use it in the center of my forehead, down my nose, under brows, tops of cheeks, the flat of my jawline, top lip and chinny.

This is usually the point where people assume they'll have that drag queen chisel (totally has its place, i'm p fond of it) but if you blend, blend and blend some more, you can achieve a much more day-to-day look.

Some people prefer to use a sponge, some brushes, some even use their fingers. Use whatever YOU feel comfortable and confident with.

The more natural i want the look, the DENSER the brush i use; the more extreme i want the look, the FLUFFIER the brush i use. For this i used the Zoeva Silk Finish Brush (an awesome brush!!!) and kept blending until i felt it looked like skin+ (a nicer version of my own skin).

Fluffier brushes like powder brushes can be used for more extreme contouring because they don't buff the product around as much, they blend it out very gently and retain more of the definition.

To finish things off, you can use corresponding powders to set your work and put back in any definition you might feel you buffed away and want back.

Alternatively you can just wear it as-is, set with a little translucent powder and be on your merry way.

There are tonnes of products out there for contouring; some sold specifically for the job, some multi-purpose. These are some of my favorites.

  • ELF HD Lifting Concealer in Brightening. This has a beautiful yellow tone and blends well with other creams and liquids.
  • Josie Maran Concealer. These are great in a couple of shades lighter or darker than your skin for highlighting and bronzing.
  • Life's Entropy Particle Contour Sticks. These come in multiple shades for contouring or bronzing and are the perfect little size.
  • OCC Creme Color Concentrate in Newt. This is an awesome product for many reasons but to correct darkness and blue tones, it works like a dream. For paler skin you can mix a little with your regular concealer.

What are some of your favorite contour/highlighting/correcting products?

It struck me recently that some people don't double cleanse, i've been doing it for years and really think its the most effective way to remove your makeup and cleanse deep down in your pores.

There are many articles online about why its an awesome method but essentially the first step removes/ emulsifies makeup and the second step cleanses the actual skin and pores.

Here are a couple of my favorite combos.

For "every day"-

This is brilliant at removing all traces of makeup including waterproof eye makeup and even eyelash glue. Rub over your entire face or use on a cotton pad for precise eye makeup removal.

&

For part 2 of cleansing i love this cleanser because its effective but really gentle, this works really well with a clarisonic or pore scrub pad too. If i feel like i need a little extra exfoliating, lately i've been adding in a tiny bit of their Brand New Day Scrub to the mix for gentle exfoliation.

For travel-

This one is just in a bit more of a travel friendly bottle (not glass and has a lid) so i prefer bringing this one traveling with me. It works the same as the OLO cleansing oil!

&

I've had a couple of samples of this in my travel bag and love the gentle exfoliation it gives. Great in combination with the nude cleansing oil!

For sheer laziness-

These are intended for eyes, yes, but they work amazingly at removing all makeup! Its like an oil cleanser in wipe form. These stay in my bedside drawer for nights when i am definitely not capable of getting back up to go to the sink and do a proper job. They're also great for travel.
(30% off Tarte until 8/4 with code FANDF)
(also, read my thoughts on Tarte's sale to Kose here and find a great alternative here)

&

These are awesome for removing any oily residue from the Tarte wipes and giving you a final deep clean. Great for a gentle exfoliation on the go and a kick of vitamin C really brightens and evens out your skin tone.

For extreme makeup removal-

Similar to the ever popular Eve Lom Cleansing Balm, this balm is amazing for heavy makeup removal but is cheaper and, i think, a little more gentle around the eyes.

&

This is an awesome, effective bubbly cleanser that doesn't dry out skin and leaves it feeling THE CLEANEST when you really need some facial help. I've found on their website they say they are cruelty free but as they're Korean i'm guessing they sell in China and abide by their testing rules- if anyone has any info on this or knows of a good foaming cleanser thats cruelty free and vegan, please let me know!

Vegan and cruelty free haircare is something i get questions on really frequently so here are my fave vegan products to share with you. I'll share the next installment with accessories as soon as its done processing!
