Avoiding flaky pastry face in the winter

Tuesday, October 06, 2015

Flaky pastry is great, don't get me wrong. Flaky pastry on your face with foundation on top; not so delicious.

Some people experience this all year 'round but generally this is a winter skin phenomenon. While skincare plays a huge part in this, flaky skin sometimes needs a little helping hand past a good exfoliator.  (i love the One Love Organics Brand New Day Scrub or the spinbrush for a good exfoliation prior to makeup, btw)

Thats where this duo comes in! Since both of these are targeted towards anti-aging, they do an incredible job of hydrating and plumping the skin as well as providing a smooth layer for makeup to adhere to.

Cover | FX Anti-Aging Primer - $38
You all know that i'm not a fan of primers and i generally forget to mention this one when people ask because to me, its skincare. The consistency of this is somewhere between a balm, a serum and a primer and is perfect for a full-coverage foundation base or just to protect your skin from the winter elements.

This contains the anti-aging powerhouse, Co-Enzyme Q10 to help smooth out fine lines and imperfections as well as being formulated without the "inflammatory five"; Gluten, Mineral Oil, Fragrance, Parabens and Talc.

I apply the smallest amount of this colorless primer with fingertips to areas i know tend to get flaky or dry, so the cheeks, forehead between the brows and also the nose (especially awesome for that flaky head-cold nose). Although the price of this might be off-putting for some, you really need the smallest amount and might only need it for those full-coverage foundation days.

Cover | FX Anti-Age Smoothing Eye Primer - $34
If you're unlucky enough to be in the scaly eye club, this primer can really help retain the integrity of the skin in that area while providing a lovely smooth base for concealers, primers or shadows.

The colorless (very slightly balmy) cream is easily absorbed by the eye area, leaving skin plump and hydrated without any residue to mess with your makeup application. This one is also formulated without those "inflammatory five" so its perfectly gentle for the eye area.

I like to apply it around the whole eye area, not just the under-eye. Just a tiny pump pressed between your ring fingers and applied by tapping it into the area provides a hydrating base that lasts all day.

So clearly, i love these products for use under full-coverage makeup especially but they also provide a beautiful natural glow when worn alone and help to keep your skin hydrated and calm regardless of your next step.
