Yeah, you read that right! Lemme tell ya a little more 'bout it!

There are many contour kits out there, especially powder ones, but do any of them even come close to the incredible price point of E.L.F.'s? Nope.

I often think more than 3 or 4 shades in a contour kit are unnecessary for the average person (not a makeup artist), so this quad's selection of colors is perfect for my tastes.

The first shade, a gorgeous eggshell color with a champagne sheen is ideal for those who want a glow without the glitter. Perfect to top cheek bones, swipe down the nose or even to highlight the eye area.

Moving onto the slightly more peach highlight shade (it reads more yellow in the picture, for some reason), i love this to set the undereye area or to blend out any crazy contour or blush i might've messed up! A great matte option that is super soft to blend.

The deeper, more taupe shade of the contour/bronze shades does appear very dark in the pan but its really easy to get a smooth application that you can't really mess up. The shade reminds me of a more matte version of the bronzer in the Charlotte Tilbury Bronze & Glow Palette.

Lastly, the bronze shade definitely has some peach undertones too so its very complimentary on a lot of skin tones and really mimics a natural bronze. Easy to apply anything from the sheerest hint to a glamazon bronze!

As far as i can tell, this palette only comes in one shade range and it would be suitable for anyone up to medium/tan shades, i think.

The mirror in the lid is perfect for application on the go because of its size and all shades work awesome as eyeshadows, too!

All shades are buttery, easy to blend and layer, and i think this palette would be perfect for n00bs and pros alike!

Find the palette here.

I've never really done first impression reviews before since i always like to use the product extensively before judging but i thought it might be fun for once.

I decided my first victims would be some new items i got from ELF along with ONE old fave.

I'll start with the old fave in this case.

ELF HD Lifting Concealer is my favorite under eye brightener and i've mentioned it a thousand times so i won't bore you. Everything from the color to the consistency is just perfect and i buy it again and again. I find it best used with a damp beauty blender.

Onto the n00bs...

ELF Moisturizing Stick Foundation- I love a good travel product and stick foundations are perfect for fast, mess-free application on the go (also TSA friendly since its a solid- woo!).

It comes in a decent color range (8 to choose from) and i went for nude which turned out to be a great color for me; light to medium with a yellow undertone. The product blends in really well and provides a decent light to medium coverage with just a few swipes buffed in (i used the zoeva silk finish brush as usual) but its also highly layer-able and i was able to get a really great coverage.

One thing i did notice is that through out the day, the areas i applied a cream bronzer over started to fade and i needed to reapply and powder. To fix this next time i might try and set it with a powder and use a powder bronzer and see how that works.

Over all i was really pleased with it and excited to play around with it some more.

ELF Acne Fighting Foundation- Some of you might be wondering why i'm using this when i do not have acne but from what i've read online it provides a beautiful finish on all skin.

Another sleek little product perfect to slip into your makeup bag; i just can't get enough of the ELF Studio packaging. This one does contain some acne fighting ingredients so i am concerned it might be a little drying but for a once in a while full coverage application, it might be fine.

Again, the color was great (i went for buff in this one) and blended in a dream. One coat provides a medium coverage and spot correcting with another layer or using another layer all over is FLAWLESS.

It does have a slightly satin finish which i love in a full coverage foundation so you don't end up looking a dry, powdery mess.

The staying power was great and i just set my t zone with a little translucent powder but the rest of my face stayed just as well. Definitely wanna try this one for a night out and see how well it holds up!

ELF Eye Brightener- I was super excited about this one cause i've been looking for a dupe of the Bare Minerals Well Rested Powder for a while now.

It did a good job of setting my concealer without creating powdery creases but i don't think you could use it alone like the BM one.

Its slightly lighter than what i'd like ideally but i'm really thinking with a little tweaking of the concealer i use underneath, the color could be adjusted.

My only complaint is the color and the finish; i do wish the finish had a little more sheen to it like the BM one but if you like a bright, set under eye i think this would be perfect!

Contouring can seem a little overwhelming at first and most of what you see online is EXTREME.
This doesn't have to be the case though, you can get the benefits of contouring and correcting in a very wearable way.

I like to split the whole thing into 4 parts; shadows, warmth, correcting and highlighting.

Shadows: I use a cool, grey toned color to give the effect of shadows in certain areas. I apply it in the most outward corners of my giant forehead, under my cheekbones, under my jaw, below my bottom lip and down my nose to slim it a little.

Warmth: This is essentially bronzing but in cream form. I use this closely in conjunction with the shadows to stop them looking like dirty lines. I like to apply it around my forehead, ON my cheekbones, around my chin and a little down the nose.

Correcting: This might be my favorite, i use it to cancel out blue tones and veins around my eyes and around my nose where it can appear darker.

Highlighting: To brighten my face i use a lighter or yellow toned product (sometimes i make a mixy) and use it in the center of my forehead, down my nose, under brows, tops of cheeks, the flat of my jawline, top lip and chinny.

This is usually the point where people assume they'll have that drag queen chisel (totally has its place, i'm p fond of it) but if you blend, blend and blend some more, you can achieve a much more day-to-day look.

Some people prefer to use a sponge, some brushes, some even use their fingers. Use whatever YOU feel comfortable and confident with.

The more natural i want the look, the DENSER the brush i use; the more extreme i want the look, the FLUFFIER the brush i use. For this i used the Zoeva Silk Finish Brush (an awesome brush!!!) and kept blending until i felt it looked like skin+ (a nicer version of my own skin).

Fluffier brushes like powder brushes can be used for more extreme contouring because they don't buff the product around as much, they blend it out very gently and retain more of the definition.

To finish things off, you can use corresponding powders to set your work and put back in any definition you might feel you buffed away and want back.

Alternatively you can just wear it as-is, set with a little translucent powder and be on your merry way.

There are tonnes of products out there for contouring; some sold specifically for the job, some multi-purpose. These are some of my favorites.

  • ELF HD Lifting Concealer in Brightening. This has a beautiful yellow tone and blends well with other creams and liquids.
  • Josie Maran Concealer. These are great in a couple of shades lighter or darker than your skin for highlighting and bronzing.
  • Life's Entropy Particle Contour Sticks. These come in multiple shades for contouring or bronzing and are the perfect little size.
  • OCC Creme Color Concentrate in Newt. This is an awesome product for many reasons but to correct darkness and blue tones, it works like a dream. For paler skin you can mix a little with your regular concealer.

What are some of your favorite contour/highlighting/correcting products?

Whether you've just had a spray tan, can't shower due to injury or surgery, are camping, are lazy... or are just interested; i wanted to share with you something i've perfected over the years- The Waterless Cleanse.

I've come up with a few different versions of this after not wanting to splash my face with water through fear of getting splash marks on my body after a semi-fresh spray tan and also from traveling so much and not always having access to a sink.

The Wipe-Only Waterless Cleanse

Some of you might already do this and wonder why i'm overcomplicating things but i never feel like my face is totally clean after using just 1 wipe alone so heres the deal...

The first wipe i use is always something with a little slip to it so it wipes away eye makeup easily and breaks down the rest of your makeup too. ELF Makeup Remover Cleansing Cloths are great for this and super inexpensive.

The second wipe i use it something a little more astringent and more of a treatment wipe. Yes To Grapefruit Brightening Wipes are perfect because they remove any residual makeup and leave your skin feeling exfoliated, toned and pleasantly tight.

The Balm Waterless Cleanse

This version is perfect to clean your face and give yourself a mini massage at the same time.

One Love Organics Skin Savior Balm along with their New Best Friend Skin Shammy are the perfect pairing to remove all makeup in a gentle, effective, scrumptious manner.
I just massage a glob of the balm into my face and wipe away the grime with the skin shammy. E voila, waterless makeup removal at its finest.

The Oil & Water Waterless Cleanse

For this lazy-girl face washing variation i start with some NUDE Cleansing Oil on a cotton pad to remove any stubborn eye makeup or lash glue, i repeat this step on a new pad for the rest of my face makeup. This stuff will remove even the craziest, thickest stage makeup with ease.

I then follow up with a slightly more astringent, yet still gentle cleansing lotion (which isn't a lotion at all, its a cleansing water or toner) to remove any last traces of makeup or oil residue. My skin is left clean, toned and distinctly refreshed and cucumbery!

Here are all of my tips & tricks for correcting and concealing under eye darkness. You probably won't need to use all of these at once but try some out and see what works for you!
