First Impressions- ELF Base Products

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

I've never really done first impression reviews before since i always like to use the product extensively before judging but i thought it might be fun for once.

I decided my first victims would be some new items i got from ELF along with ONE old fave.

I'll start with the old fave in this case.

ELF HD Lifting Concealer is my favorite under eye brightener and i've mentioned it a thousand times so i won't bore you. Everything from the color to the consistency is just perfect and i buy it again and again. I find it best used with a damp beauty blender.

Onto the n00bs...

ELF Moisturizing Stick Foundation- I love a good travel product and stick foundations are perfect for fast, mess-free application on the go (also TSA friendly since its a solid- woo!).

It comes in a decent color range (8 to choose from) and i went for nude which turned out to be a great color for me; light to medium with a yellow undertone. The product blends in really well and provides a decent light to medium coverage with just a few swipes buffed in (i used the zoeva silk finish brush as usual) but its also highly layer-able and i was able to get a really great coverage.

One thing i did notice is that through out the day, the areas i applied a cream bronzer over started to fade and i needed to reapply and powder. To fix this next time i might try and set it with a powder and use a powder bronzer and see how that works.

Over all i was really pleased with it and excited to play around with it some more.

ELF Acne Fighting Foundation- Some of you might be wondering why i'm using this when i do not have acne but from what i've read online it provides a beautiful finish on all skin.

Another sleek little product perfect to slip into your makeup bag; i just can't get enough of the ELF Studio packaging. This one does contain some acne fighting ingredients so i am concerned it might be a little drying but for a once in a while full coverage application, it might be fine.

Again, the color was great (i went for buff in this one) and blended in a dream. One coat provides a medium coverage and spot correcting with another layer or using another layer all over is FLAWLESS.

It does have a slightly satin finish which i love in a full coverage foundation so you don't end up looking a dry, powdery mess.

The staying power was great and i just set my t zone with a little translucent powder but the rest of my face stayed just as well. Definitely wanna try this one for a night out and see how well it holds up!

ELF Eye Brightener- I was super excited about this one cause i've been looking for a dupe of the Bare Minerals Well Rested Powder for a while now.

It did a good job of setting my concealer without creating powdery creases but i don't think you could use it alone like the BM one.

Its slightly lighter than what i'd like ideally but i'm really thinking with a little tweaking of the concealer i use underneath, the color could be adjusted.

My only complaint is the color and the finish; i do wish the finish had a little more sheen to it like the BM one but if you like a bright, set under eye i think this would be perfect!

  1. I have the foundation and it's too light for me. For the price I paid, it wasn't worth sending back. I might retry it and just bronze up my face to see what I think. I've been wanting to try the concealer, you use it all the time, and I need a dupe for the NARS one. If it's nowhere near a dupe, I still need an inexpensive concealer.
