The Face Mask Chronicles : Derma E Purifying Charcoal Mask

Tuesday, January 10, 2017

Welcome to my first post in The Face Mask Chronicles, today i'll be covering the Derma E Purifying Charcoal Mask; telling you what the brand says about the product as well as what i think about it!

What they say:
"Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask deeply detoxifies skin of harmful micropollutants in two ways: (1) Natural clays infused with Kimarine® Wakame, Bladerwrack and Activated Charcoal lift out dirt, oil and bacteria to decongest pores as the mask dries; (2) Apricot Seed Powder exfoliates away dead skin cells and captured debris upon removal. Kaolin and Bentonite Clays absorb excess oils and impurities, relieving skin congestion. Kimarine® Wakame is a potassium-rich, magnesium-rich seaweed that is clinically proven to protect skin against environmental pollutants (exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke, heavy metals). Bladderwrack is an antioxidant-rich, mineral-rich seaweed known for its water-binding properties, supporting healthy skin hydration and nourishment. Activated Charcoal, known for absorbing 100 to 200 times its weight in impurities, purges pores of deeply rooted toxins, then Apricot Seed Powder gently exfoliates away micropollutants. Ideal for oily, active or urban skin types, even safe for reactive skin (minimal ingredients and allergy-tested), used this formula once or twice a week for skin that looks dramatically fresher, healthier and purely glowing. "

Application:
This is definitely a product i like to apply with my fingers so i can work it into any problem areas and get an even covering. It takes between 10 and 20 minutes to dry, for me, and it will start to get tight but not uncomfortable or tingly/ doesn't sting.
(l-r: right after applying and 15 minutes later)

Removal:
I like to wash it off in the shower to avoid getting a black mess all over the bathroom. I start by massaging the dry mask with wet hands to make the most of the exfoliating properties while i'm removing it. I keep re-wetting my hands and massaging until most of the mask has gone, then give it a good few splashes of water to remove the rest. Finish with a cold rinse then continue with the rest of my skin care.

In Conclusion... :
I probably use this mask once a week or so or any time i have a break out (makes a great spot treatment too) or might've been wearing more makeup than usual/ not removed it fully the night before.

Its definitely very purifying and i've never found it to be drying but perhaps if it was used too often it could cause dryness in more sensitive skin types.

A great staple mask to have in your arsenal for times when you just want all the bad stuff drawn out of your pores and some gentle exfoliation to reveal a fresh layer of skin.

As a spot treatment it works really well to help dry the zit out as well as to use after you might've picked at your skin to be sure you got all the yuck out.

(l-r: skin immediately after removal and after a light moisturizer application)

  2. Thanks for doing this series. I love masks - not only because of the effect on the skin but it is also a very calming activity to me. This looks like a good one to pick up for my skin.
